Dr. Stieg had been the plastic surgeon on the Florida Hospital SHARES first trip to Villahermosa in Tabasco, Mexico and again, along with Dra. Celia Carrillo was fortunate to have the opportunity to surgically repair the cleft lip and palates of 34 children. Dr. Saffran, otolaryngology, was part of the team and performed needed ear surgery (placement of ventilation tubes) for many of the cleft palate children.  Drs. Robert Tainsh and Doug Conigliaro, along with CRNAs Mike Tran and Sal Pirone, and SCRNA Tania Mena-Diaz, provided anesthesia services.  Pam Saffran from the SHARES board came on the trip along with six student volunteers.  Kevin Metzing, RN and Diane VanLuven,CST were the OR team along with Megan and Gretchen Stieg; and RNs Kim Badeau and Gwen Doan provided recovery room services.
